Also, be sure to build a strong support network around you with family and friends, so that you do not feel isolated, when daily discomforts have you down.
Getting plenty of sleep is another way to help you cope and properly manage this situation. People with fibromyalgia often struggle to get a good night’s rest or complete a deep sleep cycle. Some experience periods of wakefulness or even difficulty falling asleep, making it a challenge to feel completely rested the next. Here are a few simple tips for getting a better nights rest.
- Keep a regular sleep schedule, even on the weekends
- Avoid caffeine, especially in late afternoon and weekends
- Exercise regularly, but try to avoid physical activity within 3 hours of bedtime. Physically activity may result in stimulation and keep you awake.
- Avoid daytime naps
- Try to use your bed just for sleeping. Watching television, reading a book, or checking email in bed can stimulate the brain, making it hard to relax and settle your thoughts before sleep.
- Keep your bedroom dark, quiet, and cold.
- Avoid hot liquids and spicy foods during or following dinner. Heartburn and frequent trips to the restroom interfere with restful sleep.
- Allow yourself time to wind down before bed. Consider listening to calming music or sounds or taking a warm bath to settle your body before bed.
These are just a few simple steps for coping with the difficulties of fibromyalgia. Regardless of your current physical state, fibromyalgia does not discriminate. Being knowledgeable and aware of what can be done to ease fibromyalgia pains will make living with fibromyalgia and continuing your current lifestyle much easier.
